I was extremely excited to see a home security system adapted to a off grid application
I want to stress I am am a god fearing 2nd amendment the thought of someone taking something of mine while I am away and walking around poking in through my windows or even stepping foot on my land without permission makes my blood boil... It's important to note that this property is totally off grid and the nearest power line is a mile or two away. Trail cams are a good idea but I wanted to put a actual security system in place. This is scare the thieves away and alert them to our presence.
I talked to local towns folk that said there are drug seeking thieves (tweekers) that go onto peoples property looking for stuff to steal.... There was a property within a half mile from me that a guy from California had a large shed and he had a bunch of stuff in there and someone cut the side of the building gained entry and took everything.
Normally a home security system is made for a home so to utilize it for a shed or off grid .A security system will still work even if the system itself is attacked and if there is no cell service or wi-fi or phone lines. Lucky for us our cell phone service works on property. The system itself can run on battery if it needs to and it has its on cellular connection.
Lucky for me I can get a good signal with my cell phone service provider on the property
First things first all I needed to do was set up the wireless hub (the brains of the security system) and I have the peace of mind knowing that the police will be called and I didn't have to worry about hidden fees or contracts and for 50 cents a day I had peace of mind while I was away from my property...
The next step is mounting the sensors this is great for open areas that anyone walking around in work area that wont be triggered by large wildlife and small animals like the rabbits are too small for the system to take notice. The main system is up high unreachable unless you have a ladder out of the way and is extremely loud when it goes off.
Yes its plugged into a solar panel that is plugged into a hidden converter and a solar panel on the roof for off grid powerI wanted to point out the contact sensors can be put on gates and or put a fishing line on the contact sensor and put across a large opening that will pull the contact off the sensor causing the system to go off If the trip wires don't get them the motion sensors will and there off to the side is the control panel to arm and disarm the system.
In the event of a break in the system will notify the owner in the event the owner cannot be reached the police will be called
You can get a 100w Single panel that will plug into your converter for around 130 to 200 dollars dollars on AMAZON.
To make sure this system stays online I will be mounting a solar panel to make sure the battery it charged all the time and this Portable power generator by Aimtom does the job. I have got quite a bit of people asking how to hook up the system I can only explain it this way.
It's really that simple no charge controller needed...
One final thing I want to put is a signage.... all 4 corners of the property any place were someone could walk across your property and I have "No Trespassing" sings up every 100' feet.
A little extreem? Maybe but it isn't the truth and with cell service non-existent you need to be able to protect yourself and your property.
