When I was a young child me and my family toured the country in a 1978 Dodge 25 foot Commander Motorhome so I have a basic understanding of the RV Life.
It's important to note I am going to retrofit my camper to someone who is going to live off grid.
My property is very remote so I am doing some upgrades to try to keep unwanted persons out.
While I am the type of person to visit every other weekend at the very least once a month. I am making anything that is not tied down extremely hard to get to.
There is one small problem... the trailer original owner is unable to be located and there is no title only a bill of sale since it was left in a storage yard going on a couple of years.
That's another blog post for another day.
The following are things that I am doing I am simply suggesting.
PROPER TRAILER LEVELING

| Notice the leveling blocks made of wood chocks and stabilizers |
It is important to properly level your trailer prior to use. Use rot resistant wood and place the trailer off the ground.
Put under the frame of the trailer to keep the trailer from rocking every time you walk from the front to the back. My trailer has self leveling trailer jacks already attached.
CHOCK THE TIRES
A simple bloc will do but lets secure those tires and make it a little harder with locking chocks. I have opted to have one that had a place to put a pad lock.
TRAILER DOOR DEADBOLT
Lets beef up the standard lock here. Yup, the same kind you purchase for a home is the same that I am using for the trailer.
I used to use a locking hasp with a master lock but that was simply able to be pried off with a screwdriver.
I wanted to go one step further with this and I found a YouTube video that will explain a do it yourself bar that will secure the door. Again it will make it hard to break in and that's what we want.

LOCKING TRAILER HITCH
This was a big concern with me I know there are plenty of hitch locks to keep people from taking your ride. I found a company called Fort Knox Locks that have a unique design
Don't gamble with this part I mean you can if you want but check them out here https://ftknoxlocks.com/.
SECURE THE WHEELS
I wanted to go the extra route and chain the tire to the frame using a Hardened steel chain and lock you can purchase online for around $100 dollars total total.
Also as a added layer you can add a locking lug nut to the tires this includes the spare

LIGHT EM UP
Something I cannot stress. Criminals hate lights so put some on your trailer ( all sides ) either attach it to the trailer or on a post.
These lights are very inexpensive and for what they do they work really good.
ALARM THE DOORS
Put Window Vibration Guards on all potential entry points including the back side of the door
SURVEILLANCE JUST GOT EASIER
I cannot stress the cost in these have gone down considerably and you are away from your trailer it would be best practice to capture who is snooping around your trailer.
Don't forget to post signage to remind the trespassers that they are in violation of your property.
DUMMY CAMERA / FLOODLIGHTS
These are the cameras that are going to be the decoy they will destroy these vs your trail camera while you hide the real camera that is going to capture them

I plan on making sure that they see this on the outside of the trailer.
When I mount them I will use some silicone to show they are sealed to the trailer for extra show. Some thieves are pretty smart so be sure to add a dummy antenna so that you can keep up appearances.
PLAY MIND GAMES
A couple of these stickers by the door an American Flag and a U.S Marines sticker or NRA should do nicely on the outside to get the message across that this might not be the right person to mess with.
SIGNS
I hate to put this one out there but you need signage if you are going to convict someone or keep people without a search warrant from coming in.
This is means mounting it on the perimeter of your property.
TRACK WHATS YOURS
Tracking devices think of it like a 21 century LO-JACK that you can track down your property is becoming more and more available.
Services like TILE and TrackR. Simple to mount this somewhere hidden on the trailer.
REMOVE LICENCE PLATE
While this may seem like it would not help. Police look for vehicles with defects like a light out to make a traffic stop. So if they happen to steal your trailer it would be best for long term storage to remove the plates.
Be sure to keep this at another location. If possible record the serial numbers and have a title if at all possible and report the theft as soon as it happens.
A NOTE FOR TRESPASSERS ON THE DOOR
I would post a note... laminated... right on the door to your trailer. State that there is nothing of value for breaking into for and that they are trespassing since they walked past the signs.
I would go further that they are under camera surveillance and that a signal has gone to your phone and you have reported it to the local authorities.
